I ordered the 12 ft retriever. It is easy to extend to it's full length and also easy to retract completely to put back in your golf bag.The shaft remains very stable even when fully extended. Much more stable than some others that I have owned. The hexagon shaped head does a good job of grabbing onto and holding a golf ball.Last week I walked 9 holes late in the day with my husband. I let him carry this retriever in his bag. He had so much fun using it - he was like a kid in a candy store! There are a lot of ponds on this course and seems they each contained quite a few lost balls which were too far in for easy retrieval. With the 12 foot extension, the stability of the shaft, and the ability of the head piece to lock onto the balls, he came home with 38 more balls than he headed out with. I will admit, he also retrieved 1 ball which was mine, but he returned it to me. About 2/3 of them were really good balls! That one day of use more than covered the cost of the retriever! Great value!
